Sarah of Back Home Blue
Sarah blogs at Back Home Blue, where she shares everything from her latest kitchen accomplishment to advice on how to survive being a twenty-something. She’s a proud Tennessee Vol, lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with her teacup Yorkie, Knox. Sarah can usually be found at her favorite local coffee shop, sipping wine on a patio, trying out one of C’ville’s many restaurants, or spending time with her family and friends.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
I love to write, so for me, blogging is a chance to put pen to paper– or fingers to keyboards– and share my thoughts and musings with an audience. I also love the community I have found through blogging– I’ve met some great people I wouldn’t have come in contact with otherwise.
What do you find the most challenging about blogging/being a blogger?
For me, it’s two things. First, finding the time to write a post can be hard. I have a busy schedule, and some days, fitting in a blog post on top of work, freelancing, Junior League, friends, and family can be difficult. I combat this by working ahead and scheduling posts when I can, and have learned to let it go if I don’t get a post published on any given day.
The other thing? Photos. I have a DSLR camera, but I’m not all that wise on how to use it. Plus, it’s a bit much to carry around, so I wind up taking photos with my iPhone. Or, forgetting to take photos at all. You would be amazed at the number of events I’ve been at and not taken a single photo!
If you eat only one food for an entire year, what would it be?
My Grandma Myrtle’s fried chicken. It is absolutely awful for you and not remotely gluten-free, but it is so, so good. She fries it in a cast iron pan, usually with Crisco, and as a Southerner, I can assure you that everything tastes better when it comes out of a cast iron pan.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
The ability to fly. I love Charlottesville, but it isn’t big enough to handle the volume of traffic that flows through it. Couple that with my tendency to push the clock, and I tend to be a few minutes late to everything. If I could fly, those five minute late occurrences would be a thing of the past.
